Ecolab Partnered With Marriott International to Provide Clean Water Supply and Handwashing Solution For North Bali's Highland Children
October 20, 2021
Bali, Indonesia. - October 20 2021 - Ecolab Indonesia collaborated with Marriott International and Bali Children’s Foundation to improve access to clean water at three schools in Bali’s north highland region, considered among the island’s most disadvantaged areas. The initiative was drawn from United Nations Sustainable Development Global 6: Ensure access to water and sanitation for all.
Initially, a collaboration began between Marriott and the Bali Children Foundation to provide handwashing facilities for 945 children across five schools. The Ecolab team adopted three of those schools. Ecolab tested the schools’ water supplies and discovered the presence of coliform, a dangerous pathogen that can indicate the presence of other pathogens, including disease-causing bacteria and viruses. Over the course of two months, the Ecolab team replaced the schools’ existing filtration systems with Ecolab FRESH2O water filtration program and a proprietary system that uses UV light technology to kill waterborne bacteria, viruses and parasites. The new systems now ensure that each school receives 36 liters per day of high quality and safe water for drinking and hand washing—every day of the year. In addition, Ecolab also distributed more than 600 liters of antibacterial hand washing solution for the children.
“In accordance with the UN's strategy for Sustainable Development, Ecolab wants to support our communities. Working in partnership with Marriott International gave us an opportunity to collaborate with Bali Children Foundation to provide safe, clean water for children and their communities,” says Ganesh Satyagraha, Ecolab Country Manager for Indonesia.
Ramesh Jackson, Area Vice President of Marriott International in Indonesia says, “Putting people first is at the heart of Marriott International’s company culture and foundation.
We have a responsibility and vested interest in building a strong sense of community and finding purpose in the work we do in the broader society. Together with our business council leaders, we are very proud to be working towards the wellbeing of the communities in Bali through our CSR programs. We'd like to thank Bali Children's Foundation for being
a strong partner of ours over the last few years and helping facilitate this work and
for Ecolab’s expertise in cleaning and sanitation technologies. We look forward to a long relationship with both partners.”
